Sacred Heart Major Seminary prepares candidates for the Catholic priesthood and laypersons for the permanent diaconate, lay ecclesial ministry, and other leadership roles. As such, admissions requirements vary according to the vocational goal and/or diploma or degree program.
If you're considering priesthood, we invite you to first have a conversation with the Office of Vocations or your local diocesan or religious vocations representative.
If you're thinking about the permanent diaconate, we invite you to first contact the Office for Clergy & Consecrated Life in the Archdiocese of Detroit at either (313) 596-7151 or by using our Contact Us Form. Next, give the Office of the Admissions a call at (313) 883-8696 and we will discuss your academic program options.
If you feel called to lay ecclesial ministry (such as pastoral associate, director of religious education, youth ministry, campus ministry, theology teacher, etc.), get started with the online application or give the Office of Admissions a call at (313) 883-8696 to schedule your admissions interview. If you have already started the online application but still need to complete additional information, you will need to enter the PIN number you received via email as well as your email address to continue the application.
Or maybe you want to take a class or two for your own faith enrichment. Not a problem! You can explore and deepen your understanding of the Catholic faith as an Unclassified Undergraduate or Unclassified Graduate student. This option allows you to take up to 12 credits (or roughly three to four classes) before needing to declare an academic program. Unclassified and auditing students also have a simplified admissions process.
Not sure where God is calling you? That's completely normal! Like Samuel in the Old Testament, you may say "Lord, here I am!" yet need to pray and discern more before clearly hearing what God wants. We invite you to "come and see" what the Lord may have ahead for you. Take a course or two as an unclassified student, whether at the seminary or at one of our convenient parish satellite locations or online.
Questions? Please contact our Office of Admissions at (313) 883-8696 or us the Contact Us Form. We'll do our best to guide and walk with you in your academic and spiritual journey!
